Although called a "SpanishĀ Symphony"Ā it is considered aĀ violin concertoĀ by musicians today. The piece hasĀ Spanish motifsĀ throughout, and launched a period when Spanish-themed music came into vogue.
TheĀ Symphonie espagnoleĀ is one of Lalo's two most often played works, the other being hisĀ Cello ConcertoĀ in D minor.
