Stompin’ is a groovy piece for intermediate string ensembles and is sure to be a favourite with students. It has a catchy melody at the beginning in the cellos and is accompanied by slap bass in the basses. There are lots of syncopations and funky rhythms in all instruments and all parts get to play the melody. The contrasting middle section in D major calls for long legato bows and lyrical playing in all parts. A great energetic and entertaining piece for concerts!Â
