Symphony No. 44, 1st Movement (Haydn, arr. Stephen Chin) for String Orchestra
Known as the “Mourning Symphony”, this arrangement of one of Haydn’s “Sturm und Drang” (Storm and Stress) symphonies is faithful to the original and is a great example of this turbulent and dramatic style.  Melodic and textural interest is shared extensively throughout the parts. Haydn certainly gave all his musicians a feast and plenty to do as they entertained Prince Nikolaus Esterházy in his remote Austrian palace in 1772. This arrangement includes a violin 3 and fully realised keyboard parts. (4:45)
