The Journey (Neridah Oostenbroek) for String Orchestra
The Journey is a string orchestra piece written for an intermediate ensemble. The opening D minor melody is interwoven between most of the instruments with dainty echoes in the inner parts. Be sure to lift the bow off the string after the 1st up bow slur and keep the melody light in style. The middle section of the piece sees a change of key to D major and is more dance- like in character. The 1st violins have some 3rd position work here though it sits neatly under the fingers. The final section returns to the original melody before a fiery conclusion!
